Day Two: When in Rome...
So here we are in Rome! Once we had cleared customs, we needed to wait about 20 minutes for the bus to arrive to take us to the hotel. Julia, our great tour guide, was right there to meet us and provide us with direction. While some of the crew went to get their morning coffee, a few of us decided to strengthen our defensive position in the airport terminal.
We were on our way to the hotel once the bus arrived and wow, what a city! Rome was originally founded by Latin tribes whom established villages on the Tiber River who eventually amalgamated into one city. There is a lot of history right here! After we had checked into our rooms, we hopped onto the tram and headed into the city centre.
There are so many areas of the city to see! The Victor Emmanuel Monument.
And, Piazza Navona.
All of this left our intrepid travelers a bit tired, so we rallied back to the hotel, cleaned up, and had a great welcome dinner at a local restaurant.
Today was a busy day for two reasons. The first is that everyone is working on anywhere from 20 minutes to two hours of sleep since Monday morning. We are all a little tired, but so excited at the same time. The other reason is that the big cities are a lot to take on. We don't know when we will be back, so you want to take in as much as possible. However, our crew handled it all very well and managed to fit in a full day of sight seeing.
Tomorrow - Vatican City!
