Points of Interest
We have a number of additional towns and cities to visit in between Rome, Firenze, and Paris. Although I have not been to all of them, between Karen, Anthony, and myself we can provide information on all the stops. However, since I am writing this blog, you will need to chat with Karen or Anthony to get the information on the places where I have not been!
First, let's chat about Azienda Agricola Sorsasso. This is a charming winery located in Domaso, which is on the shores of Lake Como. I had the pleasure of visiting here in 2008. The winery is located on a road that was used by the ancient Romans to march into Switzerland, and has an olive tree on the front that is over 800 years old! You will not be just visiting a winery here - you will be enjoying time with your new found family.
The next stop on our trip that I have been to before is Lucerne, Switzerland. Lucerne is known for the Lion Monument. The story of the stone lion can be found here. Worth the 10 minute walk from the downtown area!
Our next stop is Engelberg, a quaint little village nestled in the Swiss Alps. I have been here twice, and it is great! That evening we will have the opportunity to dine at the cabin Flühmatt. Afterwards, we will be able to walk down (hopefully by torchlight) back to our hotel in the village. Since Engelberg is nestled right in the mountains, if anyone is interested we can take a hike up the mountain early in the morning to watch the sunrise. There are only a few regions in the world where you can experience a site like this!
Unfortunately, no time to hit the hill this year. Maybe next year we could get Rob Butler to join us? What do you say Karen and Anthony?
We will also have the chance to visit a monastic cheese making factory Schaukäserei. Good enough to (almost) cure anyone's lactose intolerance!
After Engelberg, we will be in Freiburg to visit Hotel Victoria, the world's most environmentally friendly hotel. This will be a fascinating visit that can give you ideas that you could use at home or in your future (or current) careers. From there, we travel through Strasburg and onto Paris!
We will see all of our participants on Mondat April 25th at Terminal One of Toronto's Pearson International Airport. Enjoy the end of the semester!
