When in Rome!

On our arrival we will be in Rome, Italy. If you are unfamiliar with notable city, you can find out some neat facts here. This is a fascinating city that I have studied about, read about, and viewed programs about but have yet to see in person.

So I am SUPER STOKED!

Since we leave Toronto in the evening of Monday April 25 and arrive the morning of April 26, I myself am going to snooze on the plane. I want to ensure that I have at least some energy for our first day in the historic city. Just make certain that you do not get too comfortable if you decide to sleep on the flight over.

On the afternoon of day three (April 27th) we will have some free time to explore Rome. Three questions frequently come up at this point.

  1. Where should I go shopping?
  2. What should I see?
  3. When can I sign up for next year's trip?

We will answer the first question here - where to go shopping. Via del Corso is repeatedly suggested by both faculty who have been to Rome and websites as a place to explore for shopping. It is about five kilometres from our hotel, which equates to about 20 minute transit ride (according to Google maps - Anthony Borgo can give us a better idea). There are favourable reviews of this site on Tripadvisor.com, and shops range from student-budget-friendly to "can I mortgage my kidneys for that?" price range.

The next question to address is what to see in Rome? Well, you have lots and lots and lots of options. We recommend that you investigate by visiting various websites such as this, and then planning out your free time. Once we have the final very detailed itinerary, look at how long it will take you to get to a site of interest and back, and how long you will require while there to see the site. And, of course, you will need to travel in pairs at least so you can leave a comment below if you are in need of a free time buddy. Keep in mind that we do have some scheduled tours planned to help you with this!

As for question three, when can you book for next year's trip, as soon as the fall semester begins we will start taking names!

As an additional bonus, here are some things not to do while in Rome. An interesting and amusing read!

Until our next post!
